Ron Silver, actor and political activist, has passed away, according to New York Post. Silver, full name Ronald Arthur Silver, died of the esophageal cancer Sunday March 15 in New York. He was 62 years young!
“Ron Silver died peacefully in his sleep with his family around him this morning, He had been fighting esophageal cancer for two years and his family is making arrangements for a private service.” Robin Bronk, executive director of the Creative Coalition was quoted by the newspaper.
Creative Coalition was the entertainment industry political advocacy organization Silver co-founded in 1989.
Born 1942 in New York, Ron Silver grew up with acting being his career. He starred in films as Tunnel Vision, Lovesick, Eat and Ru, Reversal of Fortune, Enemies: A Love Story, Mr. Saturday Night , Timecop, and in Ali among others. He was best known for playing legal scholar Alan Dershowitz in Reversal of Fortune.
Being a long-time Democrat, he changed to become a GOP supporting independent after 2001 9/11 terrorism attack. Since then, he was a stalwart speaker for Republican and portrayed presidential campaign advisor Bruno Gianelli on 19-episode political drama The West Wing.
He was Emmy-nominated for his West Wing role and won a Tony in 1988 for his work in the play Speed the Plow.
In February 2008, Silver also hosted The Ron Silver Show on Sirius Satellite Radio, which focused on politics and public affairs.
Ron Silver was survived by ex-wife Lynne Miller and their two children.
