New York Post Actress Natasha Richardson Brain Dead Report

A skiing accident that Natasha Richardson herself originally thought not serious is critically endangering her life. Time Out New York first said Natasha Richardson is brain dead, and now New York Post has the same claim:

Actress Natasha Richardson is brain dead – after falling in a ski accident in Canada – and is now on sad journey home to New York, friends told The Post today.

Richardson, who was being treated at a Montreal hospital, is being transported to New York this afternoon so her mom Vanessa Redgrave, two children and other loved ones can say goodbye before she’s taken off life-support, friends said.

But we’d rather believe TMZ which said “Richardson is sedated and suffering from brain swelling.”

Update: Natasha Richardson was flied to New York and possibly hospitalized at Lenox Hill Hospital. Her condition is very serious, Dailymail is also claiming Richardson is “brain dead” .

Tonight, Miss Richardson, the daughter of Vanessa Redgrave and Tony Richardson, was flown home to ’spend one last day with her family’.

Reliable sources close to her family have told the Daily Mail that she is ‘brain dead’.

‘It’s so sad. Vanessa, her sister Lynn, everybody is gathering in New York to say goodbye,’ the close friend of the family told the Daily Mail last night , before adding: ‘No one can believe what has happened, that this once vibrant woman, full of love, of life, is lying there brain dead.’

Update: Natasha Richardson skiing accident details:

Richardson, 45, was not wearing a ski helmet when she was taking a private ski lesson on the Nansen, a beginners’ run at Mont Tremblant, she added.

Richardson, wife of actor Liam Neeson and daughter of actress Vanessa Redgrave, was at the bottom of the run, in what is known as the flats, during the mid-afternoon lesson when she fell and tumbled down the hill…

She did not hit anyone or anything before coming to a stop. The ski instructor was by her side within seconds, Lacasse said.

There was no external sign of injury, no cut or bleeding, Lacasse said.

Two ski patrollers assisted Richardson but she was not put on a stretcher, Lacasse said. Richardson walked to her room at the resort’s Quintessence Hotel, where she had been staying since Sunday.

The patrollers stayed with her for an hour. She started having headaches and she was transported to the Centre Hospitalier Laurentien.

Update: TMZ reversed their tone on Natahsa Brain Swelling report: Natasha — Only a Matter of Time?

Natasha Richardson may be alive, but only in the most technical of medical terms, according to various reports.

Family friends are telling a variety of news sources Richardson is in fact brain dead and it is just a matter of time. Richardson’s family, including her aunt Lynn Redgrave, her mother Vanessa, sister Joely Richardson, and her children Micheal and Daniel visited Natasha at Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC last night (March 17).

Update: People reported Family Friend: ‘There Is No Chance’ for Natasha Richardson

As Natasha Richardson remained in a New York hospital, her family and friends had all but given up hope that she’ll recover from a severe head injury.

“There is no chance,” a family friend told PEOPLE on Tuesday night. “It is a fact that her heart is beating but she is brain dead.”

Her dire condition – doctors described it to those close to Richardson as “leakage of blood between the brain and skull,” the friend says – has the actress’s family coming to grips with potentially having to make an unthinkably difficult decision. “It’s not official yet,” says the friend, “but they basically will detach her.”

Update: TMZ reported details of Richardson’s arrival at New York airport: Richardson’s Ambulance Ride Confirms Condition

TMZ has obtained information about Natasha Richardson’s ambulance ride in New York to Lenox Hill Hospital — she was “unconscious,” her pupils “non-reactive,” her skin was “pale” and she was suffering from “major head trauma.”

We’re told her husband Liam Neeson held her hand the entire time and caressed her face as he sat in silence.

We’re also told when the plane landed in New Jersey, medics on board told members of the ambulance team that Richardson was “brain dead.”

Update: Natasha Richardson died after the life support was taken off.

Tony-Award winning actress Natasha Richardson died at a Manhattan hospital Wednesday night after her “shocked and devastated family” took her off life support.

Richardson’s heartbroken family gathered at her bedside in a private room at Lenox Hill Hospital to say farewell – some 48 hours after the actress was felled in a freakish skiing accident in Canada.

With Richardson when she was taken off the machines were her husband, actor Liam Neeson, 56, and their sons, Micheal, 13, and Daniel, 12.

A family spokesman said: “Liam Neeson, his sons and the entire family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Natasha.

“They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time.”

Richardson’s mother, legendary actress Vanessa Redgrave, and her sister, actress Joely Richardson, were also there, as was Natasha Richardson’s ex-husband, producer Robert Fox.
