Katie Lee Joel, television food critic and chef, and her pianist husband Billy Joel, have separated five years since they married, Fox reported.
“After nearly five years of marriage Billy Joel & Katie Lee Joel have decided to separate. This decision is a result of much thoughtful consideration. Billy & Katie remain caring friends with admiration and respect for each other.” A statement from both of the couple’s reps said.
Katie Lee Joel, born Katherine Lee, is from Milton, West Virginia. Katie Lee, 27, and Billy Joel, 60, met in 2003, the same year when she graduated from the coeducational public university Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with a Bachelor’s degree in English and Journalism.

Katie Lee married to Billy at his home in Oyster Bay, Long Island, in 2004 October, becoming his third wife. Alexa Ray Joel, Billy’s daughter from his second marriage to model Christie Brinkley, served as maid of honor. Alexa Ray is four years junior to her stepmother Katie Lee.
In 2006, Katie Lee Joel became the host of the first season of Bravo’sTop Chef, but her hosting career was not so successful. She was replaced by Padma Lakshmi since the second season after TV viewers cited her lack of culinary credibility and monotonic delivery as detrimental to the enjoyability of the show.
Katie Lee is a contributing editor to Gotham magazine. She published Katie’s Kitchen weekly, a culinary and lifestyle column in Gotham’s sister magazine Hamptons. Her first cookbook The Comfort Table was published by Simon & Schuster.
Katie Lee was a judge on the cooking show Iron Chef America in 2007. She was recently seen on WineLibraryTV with Gary Vaynerchuk on May 8th 2009.
