Mark Becker was arrested and charged with first degree murder. He was being held in Butler County Jail on $1 million bond with a preliminary hearing set for July 2.

Coach Ed Thomas was a legendary award-winning football coach. Thomas had a career record of 292-84 in 37 seasons as a head coach, 34 of them at Aplington-Parkersburg High School.

He was the 2005 NFL High School Football Coach of the Year.  Coach Thomas has produced four NFL linemen–including Casey Wiegmann (Kansas City Chiefs), Jared DeVries (Detroit Lions), Brad Meester (Jacksonville Jaguars) and Aaron Kampman (Green Bay Packers)–during decades of his dedicated coaching works to the high schools.

Mark Becker was Ed Thomas’s former player. It remained unclear what’s his shooting motive. Reports emerging show Becker is just like a spoiler man. On Saturday,  he attacked a house by shattering windows with a baseball bat and driving into the garage door. Earlier this year, he had been arrested twice on drug charges.

Mark Becker’s June 24 insanity not only inflicted coach Thomas’s family but also the whole NFL world where he was well respected and cherished.
