At a tender age of 4, most kids are enjoying their carefree life. But Chen Hang, a boy from Wan Yuan County of China’s Sichuan Province, can not. This innocent boy is suffering two medical conditions, namely Budd-Chiari syndrome and hydrocele testis (picture below).
Chen Hang was born on December 3, 2005 according to the Chinese lunar calender. His home is at Quanjiba village, Baiyang Town of Wan Yuan County, Sichuan.
The abnormal condition of little Chen began appearing in May, 2006. He was not able to be diagnosed in all levels of hospitals at his hometown . And little Chen was even once operated for the hernia resulting from a mis-diagnosis.
In March, 2007, Chen Hang was finally diagnosed with the Budd-Chiari syndrome (inferior vena cava syndrome alike) in Chongqing’s Children Hospital, but the doctors there could not find any solution to the disease. In fact, he is also agonized by another illness called hydrocele testis.
This poor boy nowadays has to depend on the painkiller injection to have a short relief. The poverty-stricken family now asks for the help by posting a post on China’s largest online forum Tianya.cn to appeal the public to either make a donation or to suggest a treatment.
A lot of kind-hearted Chinese netizens are responding to the appeal. They spare no efforts to come up with the ideas to spread the news to raise the awareness, promise to make some donation contribution, and give advice to find a good hospital among other suggestions. We, at HCG, also offer our best wishes to little Chen Hang, and his family. Unfortunately, the Chen family only has the local bank account but no Paypal account, or else, a small donation in US dollars could be made from us.
Update (October 21, 2010): Days ago, I read an online donation appeal for a Hunan girl (to whom I am writing up another post) who also suffered from a giant abdomen. I immediately realized she may have the same disease with boy Chen Hang. Apparently, there were much progress happened to the 6-year-old since this entry was first entered in March. Truly, he is lucky enough. With the tremendous help from the public and Angel Mom, a collaboration organization in Beijing of Overseas Save Chinese Children Foundation (OSCCF), Chen Hang was able to be treated at the General Hospital of the Second Artillery Corps in Beijing since April. After the successful surgeries in May, Hang recuperated and now has returned to his hometown in Xichuan Province and entered the kindergarten.

Following OSCCF’s page to follow little Chen Hang’s updates!
Best Wishes for this little boy!
PS: I’m happy to know little Chen Hang can now live carefree. It was too late for me find OSCCF.org accepts the donation via Paypal on behalf of Chen Hang. As the OSCCF spares no efforts to sponsor other needy children too, I will do make frequent donations to them, though may be only a small amount of money, it’s my kindness. Today I donated only 5US$ to a girl named Xiang Yao because there are not too much left in my Paypal account. By the early days of November, I will make another donation.
