Ed Whitacre, former AT&T chairman, was picked as the new CEO and Chairman of ailing General Motors. Whitacre, 67, will take control of the US. No.1 automaker, which has filed for bankruptcy protection and is expected to be restructured in a few months, this summer.
“The appointment of Ed Whitacre as chairman represents a very auspicious beginning for the New GM,” Interim chairman Kent Kresa said in a statement. “We look forward to working with him to complete the reinvention of GM and maximize the enormous potential of this new enterprise.”
Kresa will continue to serve as GM’s current CEO and Chairman until Ed Whitacre takes his position months later. Source
