Apple CEO Steve Jobs, a pancreas cancer survivor, had a liver transplant in Tennessee around in April, according to Wall Street Journal. In January Times speculated that Jobs might undergo a pancreas remove surgery when he announced to take a  medical leave to be ended on June 30 for an undisclosed medical condition. WSJ, which did not name any source in their report, said Steve has been recovering well and is expected to return to work on schedule at the end of this month. He may work part-time initially, the newspaper noted.

Neither Jobs nor company spokeswoman Katie Cotton confirmed if the co-founder of Apple Inc. had indeed undertaken a liver transplant. Steves was yet to respond to an email requesting comment while Ms. Cotton said, “Steve continues to look forward to returning at the end of June, and there’s nothing further to say.”

A pilot of Continental Airlines Flight 61 died (probably of heart attack) in the mid-air during a flight from Brussels to Newark, New Jersey. Continental Flight 61, a Boeing 777 flied by two co-pilots, landed safely earlier today at Newark Liberty International Airport. The 247 passengers aboard Flight 61 weren’t told of the pilot’s death . The deceased pilot was the 60-year-old captain, whose name was not revealed. He based in Newark and had worked for the Continental for 32 years.

Libby Montana Asbestos Contamination Public Health Emergency

Written by Lindsay Britney on Jun 17, 2009.

Montana’s Libby town was declared a public health emergency because of the asbestos contamination, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administrator Lisa Jackson announced in a press conference held in Washington D.C. today June  17.

It was the first time the EPA has made such a determination after the Superfund law that requires the clean up of contaminated sites was passed in 1980.

Libby and a nearby town Troy, in Lincoln County, Montana, have long been contaminated by the asbestos. The asbestos pollution has caused more than 200 deaths and 1,000 illnesses in decades.

The Libby operation began producing vermiculite — a mineral often used in insulation — in 1919. But the vermiculite was contaminated with tremolite asbestos, a particularly toxic form of asbestos that has been linked to mesothelioma, a cancer that can attack the lining of the lungs, abdomen or heart.

Dust from the plant covered patches of grass, dusted the tops of cars and drifted through the air in a hazy cloud that became a part of residents’ daily lives.

Jackson’s declaration will result in renewed and extensive contamination cleanup (at least $125 million invested in the next 5 years), along with enhanced medical assistance (with an additional $6 million granted) to treat asbestos-related illness in Libby and Troy.

Kudos to The Obama Administration! And wish the people in Libby and Troy live in a clear, asbestos-free environment in the near future!

Fang Jing Weekly World Hosting

Fang Jing, the 38-year-old anchorwoman who is in the epic center of “Taiwan Spy Gate” incident, has been back on China’s Central TV Station (CCTV) hours ago, hosting the program Weekly World on the news channel.

Fang Jing was suddenly absent from hosting CCTV’s weekly military program Defense Watch since March 1. CCTV’s former host and Peking University’s Associated Professor A Yi, aka Zhou Yi-jun, wrote on his blog on June 9, claiming she leaked the military intelligence and was arrested on May 12, as a result, Fang Jing was naturally linked to be a “spy” by a lot in China.

Fang Jing denied on her blog she was a spy and accused someone of libeling her maliciously. Fang Jing also reaffirmed the same pledge in the numerous interviews. She said she would never lose her soul and betray the Chinese People and her country.

To many’s curiosities, when asked about the reasons why she did not host a program in a few months, Fang Jing first said “due to the health and family issues” but later she just used “inconvenient to disclose” as her answer.

Fang Jing Hosting Weekly World

Anyway, now the mystery seemed to be solved, it might be indeed her health which caused her to leave for some rest. When appearing on Weekly World, Fang Jing’s left upper limb was clearly seen continually shaking (check the video above).
