Lymphoedema is a swelling developed to limbs or body due to the accumulation of lymph after the drainage routes of lymphatic system become blocked or damaged.
Steve Marples, a guy from Sheffield, is suffering this condition which has caused his left leg double size of his right one. Marples found his left leg was noticeably larger than the right one ten years ago. But as Lymphoedema is a rather rare condition, he was only diagnosed with the disease recently after a series of misdiagnoses.
The 33-year-old needs to take daily antibiotics in a bid to prevent the tissue infection cellulitis which has already caused him to be hospitalized for a few times. He is now responding well to treatment and the swelling has reduced by a third and he hopes he will see further reductions.
Marples’s fellow nation Mandy Sellars suffers an even rare condition called Proteus syndrome. Two of her legs weighing 92-98kg out of total body weight about 130kg.
Best wishes to these two Britons!
