Figure skater Nicole Bobek, 31, was charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in Hudson County, northern New Jersery. Nicole Bobek was 1995 US figure skating champion and World Figure Skating Championship bronze medalist. She attended 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics.
Nicole Bobek was arrested in Florida one week ago, then extradited to New Jersery and taken in custody at the Hudson County jail. Her name was not revealed until her first court appearance (via video) on Monday morning. Nicole Bobek was accused of playing “a significant role’ in a drug ring previously operating in Hudson County.

“She played a significant role in this operation,” said Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said of the probe that took down a methamphetamine ring and resulted in more than a dozen arrests, including Bobek’s. “She was actively involved in the upper echelon of this ring.”

Bobek, … who has homes in Manhattan and in Jupiter, Fla., appeared in Central Judicial Processing Court via video link from the Hudson County jail in Kearny. She was arrested in Florida as a fugitive from justice based on the charged filed in Hudson County. Bobek did not fight extradition and was brought to New Jersey on Thursday by officers of the Hudson County Sheriffs office.
Nicole Bobek through her attorney Sam DeLuca pleaded not guilty. Bobek is being held on a $200,000 bail. She faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
Update: Nicole Bobek was released on a bail reduced from $200,000 to $100,000. NJ.com said a state Superior Court judge allowed her to return to her Florida home, but restricted her travel to that state and New Jersey. According to AP, Jana Bobek, Nicole’s mother, did not believe her daughter would do something illegal, but said if she did, it was because of the company she keeps. Jana said her daughter likes to “party” and that she has a good heart.
