Pope Doing Christmas Mass
Pope Doing 2009 Christmas Eve Mass (Video capture, AP / Youtube.com)

People attending Thursday’s Christmas Eve Mass by Pope Benedict XVI, picture left, had a terrific moment when a woman rushed to the Pontiff as he walked down the main aisle to begin the service last night in St. Peter’s Basilica, Vatican City. The woman was said to be mentally unstable. At the time the incident happened, the woman in red dress  jumped over the wooden barriers and knocked down the Pontiff and Cardinal Roger Etchegaray as well before being controlled by the bodyguards. Her antics caused no injuries to Pope, who later continued the Mass and made no reference to the commotion. Glad His Holiness is all right! (more…)

Bart Ehrman on Stephen Colbert Talking About Jesus, Interrupted

Posted on May. 15, 2009 by Lindsay Britney

New Testament scholar Bart Ehrman, James A. Gray Distinguished Professor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, talked with comic Stephen Colbert about his new book Jesus, Interrupted in an April episode.

According to Twilirt, Ehrman makes the following claims in his book

1) Doctrines such as the divinity of Jesus and heaven and hell are not based on anything Jesus or his earlier followers said.

2) At least 19 of the 27 books in the New Testament are forgeries.

3) Believing the Bible is infallible is not a condition for being a Christian.

4) That the Resurrection didn’t take place- Ehrman says “I think some of the disciples had visions.”

Jesus, Interrupted gets a negative review from Eric Wright, of themergeblog.com

I rarely read a book without finding something of value in it. Even in viewpoints with which I disagree I can usually find some redeeming points or insights.

Jesus, Interrupted, however, was a waste of my time. While being easy on the readability scale, it is filled with half-truths and poor scholarship almost to the point of unreadability.

So, I hasn’t decided yet if I would buy Ehrman’s book or not.
