Gold Block

Gold from sewage? No kidding! Suwa sewage treatment facility in central Japan’s Nagano prefecture has yielded more gold from sludge than can be found at some of the world’s best mines! The Suwa facility which  need to treat sewage from many factories in the area that use gold to manufacture the precision equipments recently recovered 1,890 grammes of gold per tonne of ash from incinerated sludge. You know, even like Japan’s Hishikari Mine which is among the world’s best gold mines contains only 20-40 grams of the precious metal per tonne of ore! Sewage gold can earn the Suwa facility about 15 million yen (~$170,000) for the fiscal year to the end of March, what a bonus during the current economic crisis! [Source: Reutuers; Image: Orezone.com]
